Join us at 10am Christmas morning and enjoy our two hour "Sincerely Yours '09" tribute to the life and work of the legendary Dame Vera Lynn who remains, to this day, "The Forces Sweetheart"
- our show is repeated, for your convenience, at 4pm and 10pm on Friday 25th December 2009
Radio Bracknell Forest are honoured that local poet, John Harrison, has penned this tribute specially for our show. Hear John read his work on Sincerely Yours '09:
Blooming Vera
Oh Vera
Your soft clear voice
Tells of the white cliffs of Dover
That all shall see
When all this war is over
Oh Vera
Do you remember when
you told us
We will meet again
Don’t know where
Don’t know when
And though many
were laid down to rest
Best of this Island
From you
Oh God bless you
From us
You still hold true
Oh Vera
You sang to us
There will always be an England
Land a Free
The rolling hills
And plenty valleys deep
Oh yes this England
still is true
And Vera
This England still loves you
Oh Vera
Through the days
Of black and white reels
Through oh so many
Too many
Far away Poppy fields
Through sky’s true and blue
And through dark shadows
Of yet more war
But we know our Vera’s
Always ready
For the next encore
Oh Vera
This land
These cliffs
Those blue bells
The thatched roofed cottages
And red pillar boxes
Oh them all
Reminds us of this land
And we never forget
Where it all began
For our hearts were always filled
When you sang

Station Director's comment: John Harrison is a very interesting person. As well as being a poet, John is an active campaigner on child abuse issues. If, like me, you want to find out more, please visit his website www.Bsafe1stalways.com
“My role as President of The Dame Vera Lynn Trust for Children with Cerebral Palsy is hugely important to me.
For a family to be suddenly and unexpectedly faced with the news that their child is affected by cerebral palsy is a life-altering experience. The special attention that their child will need in his or her early years is woefully lacking in the public sector. Early intervention is crucial.
The free-to-all service that we supply at our School for Parents is a lifeline to our families and is probably the first such specialist support that they will receive. Our trust will support them through the early years and help to ensure that their child achieves their maximum potential and becomes a more integrated member of society”.
